Abstract (EN)

The aim of the present thesis is to investigate the applicability of intrauterine royal jelly in the treatment of subclinical endometritis (SCE) in cows. For this purpose, 120 heads of Holstein breed, 3-4 years old cows were used postpartum between 21-25. According to the percentage of neutrophils (PMN) counted by the cytobranch method on the day, SCE and non-SCE (normal) were divided into two equal groups, which were randomly divided into three subgroups. One day after cytology, 200mg/20 mL royal jelly was administered intrauterinely to Group SCE Royal Jelly (Group SERJ), 20 mL physiological saline was administered to Group SCE Placebo (Group SKEP), while no application was made to Group SCE Control (Group SEC). The same practices were applied to the non-SCE Group Normal Royal Jelly (Group NRJ), Group Normal Placebo (Group NAP) and Group Normal Control (Group NC) with the same subgroups in the SCE groups 40-44 postpartum days from all groups in the study. Cytology samples were taken again on days. When we looked at the findings in our thesis, it was seen that the highest PMN percentage (22.45±6.52) on postpartum days 21-25 was in the subclinical endometritis group that received placebo. It was observed that PMN decreased in Group SCERJ and SCEP in 40-44 days and there was no significant difference between them, but there was a significant difference with the control group (P < 0.05). A strong (r = +0.983) correlation of PMN cells counted with each other by Giemsa and Papanicolau staining methods was noted. A significant positive correlation was measured between the neutrophil count and the cervix uteri diameter (r= +0.285), the first day of artificial insemination (r=+0.328), the number of artificial inseminations per pregnancy (r= +0.526) and a negative correlation was measured with the number of pregnancies at the first artificial insemination (r=- 0.468). As a result, it was concluded that cows with subclinical endometritis administered intrauterine royal jelly and placebo had positive effects on some fertility parameters in parallel with the decrease in neutrophil numbers compared to the control group. In addition, the lowest PMN percentage measured on day 40-44 (8.20±3.99) was in the royal jelly group and this value was statistically significant compared to the decrease in other subgroups. In the SCE positive groups, the highest first insemination pregnancy rate (% 45±0.21) was in the royal jelly group and the statistical difference was not significant. Based on these data, it was revealed that the application of royal jelly and physiological serum could be an alternative in the treatment of SCE.
