Sudan krizi sırasında üniversite öğrencilerinin sosyal medya kullanımının araştırılması (2019-2024)

The usage of social media increases significantly among people during times of crisis. This study intends to investigate the usage of social media by Sudanese university students during crises. A quantitative descriptive research approach based upon a survey method was utilized to describe the current state of using social media by Sudanese students. The data was collected from 355 Sudanese students applying a non-probability convenience sampling method, and the final sample comprised 318 valid responses. While the quantitative data was analyzed by applying SPSS (Version 21) using descriptive statistical analysis, the replies to the open-ended question were analyzed by NVIVO (Version 12) using the thematic analysis method. The findings unveiled that the students highly used and adopted social media during the crisis, and WhatsApp was the most used social media outlet by students because of the instantaneous communication and rapid dissemination of information. Most of the students (98%) had multiple social media accounts. The findings demonstrated significant differences in students' social media usage based on their genders and ages. The academic and entertainment motivations of the students aged between (17 and 21 years) are higher than other age groups. Also, male students use X (formerly Twitter) and Facebook more than female students. Moreover, the findings found that the students' reasons for SMU can be divided into many categories such as news and information, communication and socializing, entertainment, academic, business and profession, technology, and self-development reasons
