Abstract (EN)

The rapid increase in the world population causes consumption of natural resources, increased energy needs and increased use of fossil fuels. This situation disrupts the natural life cycle, causes greenhouse gases to accumulate in the atmosphere and increases global warming. The effects of global warming negatively affect climate changes and natural life. Countries around the world are carrying out various studies to reduce the effects of global warming and protect themselves from the effects of climate change. These studies include measures such as reducing greenhouse gas emissions, expanding the use of renewable energy, and protecting and increasing forest assets. In this study, the carbon footprint example of the sulfur recovery unit established in Kırıkkale oil refinery was used. The company's data for 2023 was used and was calculated considering international emission factors. With Tier 1 approach; The carbon footprint amount of resources such as electrical energy consumption, water consumption, waste generation, and diesel resource consumption was calculated. As a result, the greenhouse gas emission released into the atmosphere in 2023 is calculated as 1,014.8004 tons of CO₂e. When the results obtained were evaluated, it was concluded that carbon emissions would be prevented because of activating renewable energy sources and expanding public transportation.
