Abstract (EN)
The sultan's diaries written by Enderun officers, who were called sır kâtibi in the Ottoman palace, are named "rûznâme". In these diaries, the sultan's trips in and out of the city, meetings with statesmen, his activities in the palaces, mansions and waterside mansions, where he stayed for a long time, Friday public processions, holiday (eid) celebrations, divan meetings, mawlid ceremonies, disasters such as fire, earthquake, flood, etc. are described by taking the sultan to the center. In other words, in these works, what the sultan did every day was recorded with all its vitality. This study contains the texts of the rûznâmes that recorded about twenty years (between 1730-1731, 1734, 1735-1738, 1740-1750, 1752-1754) of the twenty-four-year reign of Sultan Mahmud I (1730-1754), the 24th Ottoman Sultan, day by day, written by seven different private secretaries/historians/authors, each of which are in different libraries and have a volume of approximately 500 leaves. In the first part of the thesis, which consists of three parts, starting from its historical origins, the institution of private secretariat (sır kâtipliği) and the sultan's diaries (rûznâmeler) as a source of history were examined. In the second part, the lives of seven private secretaries of Sultan Mahmud I who kept rûznâme were identified and revealed, and the copy, content, language-style features and effects of the rûznâmes they wrote were discussed. In the third part, the transliterated texts of the rûznâmes are given.
