Abstract (EN)
Due to its important role in economy, energy is one of the most significantfactors in economic growth. Energy which will increase the competitiveness ofTurkey in the world markets and meantime increasing the quality of life can only beobtained through sustainable energy policies. In terms of its environmentalimplications, it is possible to decrease the pollution, which we particularly observe inlarge cities, by adopting greener energy sources as well as more efficienttechnologies. Our national interests also require us to use renewable energies insteadof imported fuel in order to reduce our dependability on energy-exporting countries.Considering its micro and macro implications, the efficient use of energy is asignificant factor in economic growth of Turkey. In this respect, renewable energybecomes a key issue in Turkey. In this study, renewable energy sources, the efficientuse of energy and environmental impacts of energy use which are the basis ofsustainable energy policies are being first examined at a global level. Moreover, theimportance of sustainability of energy for Turkey, and the ways to assure this is alsoexplained.Key words: Sustainable development, Energy in Turkey, Energy policies
