Abstract (EN)
The wave of mass migration from Syria as of 2011 has created new social relations with groups that had previously settled in the city through internal migration, sharing the same neighborhoods, streets and spaces. This study aims to analyze whether the descriptions, generally accepted patterns and social typifications used to define Syrian asylum seekers in their encounters in daily life, change in non-superficial contacts through the example of Syrians in Denizli. Within the limitations indicated, the study reveals which dynamics shape the aforementioned relations, how Syrians are defined and with which experiences these definitions are transformed. In the study, a mixed method was preferred considering that it is appropriate for the field and subject of the research. In total, 42 interviews were conducted with Syrians and internal migrants and 382 surveys were conducted with internal migrants in three neighborhoods, namely Sevindik neighborhood, Karşıyaka neighborhood and Dokuzkavaklar neighborhood, where Syrians are densely located. It is hoped that it will make a new field-based contribution to migration studies in Türkiye.
