Abstract (EN)

In the defense industry and air transportation, lightness and strength are important. For this reason, magnesium alloys are preferred in these and similar sectors due to their lightness and specific strength properties. In addition, good processability, easy recycling, high thermal conductivity, dimensional stability and damping, and good electromagnetic protection are among its important properties. Magnesium is not a material used alone. Because its toughness value and strength are low. These mechanical properties can be improved by alloying magnesium. Magnesium alloys are used not only in the defense industry and aviation sectors, but also in sectors such as mobile phones, automotive, computers, and sports equipment. It is also used as an implant material in the health sector. In this study, magnesium alloy AZ31B material was welded by friction stir spot welding method and appropriate welding parameters were determined. Conformity control was provided by visual and mechanical tests. AZ31B magnesium alloy sheet materials were joined by spot welding in a universal milling machine with different tools and speeds. Standard tensile samples were prepared from the welded parts and subjected to tensile tests. Hardness tests of the weld area were performed. The results of the experimental study showed that the geometry and the speed of the pin used are effective on the mechanical properties.
