On a rail - wheel mechanism, and metal - to - metal friction were studied. The rail - wheel mechanism was modelled for laboratory conditions, and test results from 7 differend deposit welding rods ( E 10 - 60 Z covered, E 6 - 60 ( 65 w ) t covered, E 18 - 8 Mn B, E 4 - 200 k covered,Ei- 300 covered, Ey - 4253 Mn B, E 51 - 3 RR 22 ) were examined. Tests were applied under 40 N, 60 N, and 80 N loads..constant sliding and room conditions. Test results were determined by weight loos.IV Test result were interpreted occording to the metal lographic structure, surface hardness and oxide film formed on the surfaces. The best results were obtained from austenitic structures having ductile matrixes. Among these structures, the austenitic structures having NbC ( Niobium Carbide ), showed better wearing resistance than the others. Oxides formed on the surface increased the wear resistance because of the reducing the f notional force. A direct relation between surface hardness and wear resistance were not determined.
