Abstract (EN)

Safavids, one of the Turkish states established in the Iranian geography, are much richer in terms of historiography compared to the states before them. The importance of these works cannot be underestimated for the illumination of Turkish history. The Shah Tahmasb period is also a period in which important developments were experienced in historiography. Kadı Ahmed Gaffârî's work named Târîh-i Cihân-ârâ was also written in this period. It is observed that only a small number of the Safavid main written sources have been translated into Turkish till today. The present thesis is about the translation and evaluation of the work named Târîh-i Cihân-ârâ, which is one of the important historians of Shah Tahmasb period, starting from the Karakhanids to the end of the Timurids. In the first part, the development of Persian historiography, the life and works of Kadı Ahmed Gaffari were examined. In the second part, the translation of the specified part of the book was done. Târîh-i Cihân-ârâ was first published in Tehran in 1967 by Hasan Nerâkî. In 2017, it was reprinted by Abdulkerim Corbezedar with a new preface. Both books were utilised in our thesis study. Another work of Kadı Ahmed Gaffari, known as one of the important figures of the Safavid period, is Târîh-i Nigâristân. Kadı Ahmed Gaffârî has the characteristic of being a poet, as well as being a Kadi and historiographer. In the book of Târîh-i Cihân-ârâ, which was given as a gift to Shah Tahmasb, by Kadı Ahmed Gaffari, the poems of poets before him are mostly included.
