Abstract (EN)

People have to work to satisfy their various needs. Taking measures on occupational accidents and occupational health problems allows individuals to work in healthier environments. In addition, occupational health and safety measures help to regulate workflow and protect natural environment. Another effect of these measures is to prevent possible injustices, to realize risks and to allow solutions to be determined in advance. Mines and quarry enterprises are very open to occupational accidents and health related problems due to the nature of the works there. Working in dusty, polluted air and noisy environment; usage of heavy construction equipments; and intensive physical movements increase risk of having more work related accidents with respect to other industry sectors. In Turkey, work related, occupational, accidents have occurred frequently in mines. In this study, occupational safety was investigated in mines, especially in quarries. In addition to literature review, an application has been performed to realize how risks are analyzed in a selected sample mine. Risks are important in specifying which measures will be taken against accidents. The findings show that the mines (quarries) have very dangerous working areas, especially if the employees and the employer's responsibilities are not fulfilled. Risky parameters at a basalt quarry have been evaluated in this work to produce Check List for safer working environments. In order to define risky conditions for safe work & workplace safety condition for tested quarry, L-Type risk evaluation decision matrix and Fine Kinney risk analysis method were used. The results were then, compared for their evaluations. Keywords: Mine, Occupational Health and Safety, Risk, Quarry
