The factors that effect the students creativity in the design process

In this research the following are investigated: The problems that the students are facing during thier creative activities, the methods of the professors and how they intervene to the progress of creativity, and finally what can be proposed to solve the design students? creativity problems in the Faculties of Fine Arst and Design in Turkey. Within the research, resource scanning and qualitative methods are used. Related publications are scanned and interviews with professors and students are being held and these negotiations are being interpreted.Within the research, opinions of students from Mimar Sinan University Department of Graphic Design, Marmara University Department of Graphic Design, Anatolian University Graphic Design, Endustrail Design and Fashion Design Departments, Osmangazi University Department of Architecture and Dumlupınar University Graphic Design Departments are being gathered concerning creativity within the design process and according to these opinions solution proposals are build up.The reseach is twofold. In the first chapter, the definition and phases of creativity, the dimensions of creativity, creative output, crative habitat, creative process, creative personality are the main themes. The relationship between creativity and concepts like intelligence, gender, age, education and technology are being categorized as personal, perceptive, emotional, associative, societal and educational barriers. Creative thinking technics are put forward under themse like brain storming, creative problem solving, case study, opinion development and conceptual mapping.The second chapter focuses on the outcomes from the findings which are analized according to qualitative data analysis, opinions and data content analysis by developing charts. The outcomes are being interpreted generally avvording to their theoretical and practical importance and truth value and some proposals are made according to the results.Keywords: Design, Creativity, Art Education, Design Education, Graphic Design
