Abstract (EN)

The use of LPG as a fuel system in vehicles is rapidly increasing in Turkey according to TUIK's data. The most important problem that arises as a result of the widespread use of LPG due to being more environmentally and cheaper is the safety problem in LPG vehicles. In this study, it is aimed to avoid the loss of life and property of the vehicles transformed with LPG and to investigate the security problems and to eliminate these problems. Within this scope, LPG conversion systems, inspection practices in LPG vehicles and safety problems in LPG vehicles as a result of assembly or user error are explained with photographs and examples and precautions and suggestions to be taken are given. In the Tavşanlı district of Kütahya, LPG gas tightness checks were carried out by the Tavşanlı District Representative of the Chamber of Mechanical Engineers of 2020 vehicles, which had reached the time of physical inspection in 2017, as a result of the inspections, the inconvenience of the existing security measures and gas leakage were detected in the vehicles and the results were statistically significant. In the "IBM SPSS Statistics" analysis program "Chi-Square Test" method was used. Since the emission value of LPG vehicles is lower than their gasoline equivalents, the need to support the use of more environmentally friendly LPG and similar alternative fuels has emerged. It was determined that the last conformity rate of the controls in the model vehicles older than the model year was found to be lower and the necessity of further inspection and maintenance of these vehicles was observed. A total of 996 nonconformities were detected in 551 (27.27%) of the 2020 vehicles tested for LPG tightness. Unauthorized vehicle conversion companies, non-standard materials used and lack of information shows the excess of LPG vehicle conversions that are not suitable for the technique and showed the importance of controls and controls. It has been concluded that the existing LPG safety problems in the vehicles can be completely eliminated by the examinations, comprehensive controls, correct intervention of the authorized companies, the maintenance services performed and the awareness of the users and the public. Key Words: Conversion Systems, Safety Problems, LPG.
