Determination of selenium in chicken meat, chicken feed and egg by hydride generation atomic absorption spectroscopy

Abstract (EN)

A method has been developed for the determination of selenium in chicken meat, eggand chicken feed using hydride generation atomic absorption spectrometry (HGAAS).Appropriate wet-digestion procedure and optimum values of the variables such as HCland NaBH4 concentration, flow rate of the carrier gas were determined experimentally.Open wet digestion procedure has been chosen for an appropriate digestion procedureand homogenized samples were digested by using HNO3, HClO4, H2SO4, HCl acidmixtures. In this study, the analytical parameters such as selectivity, accuracy,precision, sensitivity, limit of detection (LOD) and limit of quantification (LOQ) werealso determined. LOD and LOQ were found 0,78 µg/L and 2,35 µg/L, respectively. Theinterfering effects of the elements which is possibibly present in egg and chicken meatand the elements which could be determined by HGAAS were investigated. Standardreference materials such as IRMM IMEP 19, LGC7160 and GBW 08572 were used tocontrol the accuracy of the method. The accuracy and precision of the method aresatisfactory and the relative standard deviation is less than 4 % and relative error isless than 10 % for 10 µg/L selenium in 500 µL of sample volume. Seleniumconcentrations are found 0,27 ± 0,02 µg/g in eggs, 0,11 ± 0,02 µg/g in chicken meats and0,45 ± 0,02 µg/g in feed .
