Abstract (EN)
Near field resonant inductive coupling (NRIC) is one of the oldest and predominant wireless communication methods with an implanted medical device (IMD). In this approach, an inductor coupled with a sensor makes an LC resonator. Any change in the sensor's output is reflected as a change in its capacitance, which in turn leads to a shift in this LC resonator's resonance frequency. Shift in this resonance frequency can be tracked wirelessly by measuring the output impedance/reflection coefficient of an external reader antenna in the near field of the implanted device. In most current devices, data from multiple sensors is required simultaneously. In this work, we propose a simple configuration to simultaneously sense various parameters from one antenna. By tapping the inductor at different locations, we get two sub-inductors. We connect two capacitive sensors with the sub-inductors to get two LC loops. The scope of this thesis is the design of such an antenna through simulations, its fabrication, and characterization with two sensors simultaneously to demonstrate its feasibility in potential IMD applications.
