Abstract (EN)

ABSTRACT Master of Science Thesis REMOVAL of DYE STUFFS FROM TEXTILE EFFLUENTS BY ELECTROADSORPTION YUSUF YAVUZ Anadolu University Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences Environmental Engineering Program Supervisor: Assoc Prof. Ülker Bakır Ö?ÜTVEREN 1998, Page 132 In this work, removal of dye stuffs from textile effluents by electroadsorption has been studied and a mixture in the ratio of 8:1 of granulated activated carbon to perlite has been used as adsorbent. Chemical adsorption experiments has also been studied to prove the efficiency of the electrochemical adsorption and these two different methods have been compared. Electroadsorption studies have been carried out in a bipolar trickle tower electrochemical reactor. The initial dye concentration, solution flow rate, applied potential, distance between the electrodes have been examined as the parameters to treat the solutions containing "Acilan Blau" as the dye stuff. The effects of the NaCl presence on the removal rate have also been investigated. After this experimental studies, in the optimum conditions, a waste water sample provided from Sarar Textile Industry has also been examined. According to the experimental results, removal rates have been found higher than that of chemical adsorption. It has also been found that dye stuffs can be removed successfuly from the waste water by electroadsorption using granular activated carbon. Keywords: Electroadsorption, Adsorption, Dye stuff, Granulated activated carbon (GAC), Textile waste water
