Thematic map desing

In this thesis, design of thematic maps that increased its popularity and user recently was investigated. There is no legislation on the production of thematic map in our country. This situation has led to a lack of uniformity and standards in the design of thematic maps across the country. Therefor it was thought that design principles should be introduced the theme of thematic map design. It should be noted that thematic maps are nonetheless a map, so general rules that applied to maps are valid for thematic maps as well. In this regard, it is necessary to introduce thematic design principles by using general cartographic design principles. In this thesis study, it was tried to put forward design principles of thematic maps by using general graphic and cartographic design principles. Studies contributed to literature on design of thematic maps should be continued. In this regard, it is thought that this thesis study will be a guideline for thematic map and design of these maps.
