Evaluation of employees in cleaning works in teams of occopational health and safety investigation of information attitudes and behaviors example of yozgat bozok university

This study is a qualitative research conducted with a phenomenological design, aiming to understand the knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors of cleaning staff regarding Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) at Yozgat Bozok University. Conducted between April and May 2025, semi-structured, face-to-face interviews were held with 29 participants from both campus and hospital units. Using maximum variation sampling, individuals with diverse characteristics such as age, gender, education level, and work experience were selected. Data were collected through audio-recorded interviews and analyzed using content analysis with an inductive approach. A total of 498 codes were generated and grouped into 13 categories, which were then organized under four main themes: OHS Training and Knowledge Level, Perception of Risks in the Work Environment, Use and Accessibility of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), Suggestions for Improving OHS Practices. While 93% of participants stated they had received OHS training, 66% found it infrequent, theoretical, and insufficient. The need for practical and job-specific training was frequently emphasized. Physical and chemical risks were the most commonly reported hazards, whereas hospital workers particularly highlighted biological risks such as exposure to infectious waste. Significant lack of PPE knowledge (62%) and access issues (45%) were identified. Usage habits were influenced by environmental conditions and lack of enforcement. A large majority (86%) of participants recommended more frequent and practical training, regular inspections, and improvements in workplace conditions.
