Abstract (EN)

In this thesis, it is aimed to synthesize peripherally 4-(4-phenyl-2-thiazolyl)sulfanyl and tert-butyl substituted unsymmetrical zinc, cobalt and manganese phthalocyanines and 4-(4-phenyl-2-thiazolyl)sulfanyl containing double-decker lutetium phthalocyanine. The structural determination of the synthesized compounds was performed with UV-Vis, FT-IR, 1H-NMR and MS. Aggregation, electrochemical, spectroelectrochemical, and gas sensing properties of the compounds were also investigated in this thesis. The redox properties of unsymmetrical metallophthalocyanines were investigated with cyclic voltammetry and square wave voltammetry in order to study the effect of metal centers and electrolyte systems on the electrochemical activities of the complexes. While zinc phthalocyanine illustrates phthalocyanine based electron transfer reactions, metal-based redox processes were observed for cobalt and manganese phthalocyanines. It's observed that electrolyte system effects the reversibility and aggregation behaviours of the complexes. The gas sensing properties of newly synthesized phthalocyanines were examined against a series of gases. Unsymmetric zinc phthalocyanine showed a characteristic sensitivity to SO2 gas and it is understood that this molecule can be used as a sensor for SO2. Also, the gas sensor properties of the molecule can be improved by some modifications on the molecule.
