Abstract (EN)

It is descriptive cross-sectional study conducted to examine the relationship between the barriers experienced by individuals with type 2 diabetes during the insulin treatment process and their self-care behaviors. The research data were collected by face to face interview method with 215 people who received service in the outpatient clinic and inpatient services of the Internal Diseases, Endocrinology and Metabolism departments of Dışkapı Yıldırım Beyazıt Training and Research Hospital in Ankara between December 2021 and May 2022. The Patient Information Form, the Barriers to Insulin Treatment Ouestionnare (BITQ), and the Diabetes Self-Care Scale (DSCS) were used to collect the research data. Number, percentage, minimum/maximum, mean, standard deviation, t test, Mann Whitney U test, ANOVA, Kruskal Wallis test and Pearson correlation tests were used in the analysis of the data. 52.1% of the participants were women, 76.3% were married, 56.3% were primary school graduates, 47.0% were housewives, 53.5% had diabetes diagnosis of 10 years or more, 42.8% of them had insulin treatment duration of 6 months- 5 years, mean HbA1c was 10.19±2.81 and BMI was 29.95±5.83. The mean total score of BITQ was 4,59±1,04 and the mean total score of DSCS was 81.82±13.39. A week positive correlation was found between the total mean score of DSCS and Fear of Hypoglycemia and a week correlation was found between the Expected Difficulty in Insulin Treatment sub-dimension (p<0.05). It has been determined that individuals with high diabetes self-care power expect more positive results in the treatment process, experience fear of hypoglycemia and expect less difficulty in the insulin treatment process. By increasing the self-care power of individuals with diabetes, negative attitudes and behaviors towards insulin threapy can be prevented.
