Abstract (EN)

The study was carried with 220 diabetic individuals in cross-sectional type to investigate the effect of self-monitoring of blood glucose on quality of life and glycaemic control in people with type 2 diabetes who applied to the internal medicine outpatient clinic of Abant İzzet Baysal University İzzet Baysal Training and Research Hospital between 01.02.2016 - 31.05.2016. Data were collected through questionnaire survey and Quality of Life Index-Diabetes Version-III by face-to-face interview method. Research data were calculated as mean, standard deviation, numbers and frequencies, they were evaluated by using Chi Square, One Way Anova, Independent T tests and correlation analysis. It was determined that 55.9% of the patients with diabetes were women, 87.7% were married, the mean duration of diabetes diagnosis was 9.2 ± 5.7, 48.1% had OAD treatment, 90.9% had diabetes-related complications, 66.4% had SMBG and blood glucose measurements were commonly performed before meals. In the study, it was found that blood glucose monitoring education and some features related to this education may affect SMBG, and there was only significant difference between the physiological and spiritual status in the subscales of the quality of life scale in terms of quality of life in patients with Type 2 diabetes who had and without blood glucose monitoring. However, there was no significant difference between self-monitoring of blood glucose and glycemic control parameters, but blood glucose measuring frequency was found to be significantly associated with glycemic control in the study. According to these results; in order to attain and maintain glycemic control of diabetic individuals, nurses who provide care to these individuals should educate individuals about SMBG and determine the needs of the individual and they should evaluate whether the measurements are performed in accordance with the requirements, results of blood glucose measurement and the validity of them.
