Abstract (EN)

In order to determine the effect of health literacy on diabetes self-efficacy and foot self-care in type II diabetics, a descriptive and cross-sectional study was conducted with 187 people between 01 September 2021 and 31 August 2022. "Introductory Information Form", "Turkey Health Literacy Scale", "Diabetes Self-Efficacy Scale" and "Diabetic Outpatient Self-Care Behavior Scale" were used in the study. Frequency, percentage, mean, Kruskal Wallis and Mann Whitneyy U and correlation analyzes were performed in IBM SPSS 26 program. It was determined that the participants in the study were mostly of low education level and advanced age, did not follow their diet regularly and generally did not exercise, most of their feet were not examined and most of them did not have wounds on their feet. Scale total score averages of the participants; The mean (TSOY-32) Scale score was 22.50±10.65, the Diabetes Self-Efficacy Scale mean index score was 72.83±11.84, and the Diabetic Outpatient Self-Care Behavior Scale mean index score was 22.60±5.44. The health literacy level of 57.8% of the participants was found to be insufficient. A correlation was found between the (TSOY-32) Scale and Diabetes Self-Efficacy total scores of the patients included in the study. It was determined that as health literacy increased, diabetes self-efficacy increased (p<0.01). There was no significant difference between the total score averages of the (TSOY-32) Scale and the diabetic outpatient self-care scale. (p>0.05)
