Abstract (EN)

Metals and alloys have a large area of applications in medicine because of their suitable mechanical properties. Titanium and its alloys have been widely used as implant materials in orthopedic and dental prosthesis for their excellent biocompatibility, high corrosion resistance, low-weight and favorable mechanical features. However, the bone ingrowths properties and implant fixation behavior need to be improved to shorten the implant-tissue osteointegration time. Among the available bioceramics to produce coatings, hydroxyapatite (HAP) ,which has preference because of its chemical, structural, and biological similarities with natural bone and its direct bone bonding capability with the surrounding tissues, is coated on the implant surface in order to eliminate these disadvantages. This system combines the mechanical advantages of the underlying substrate and biological affinity of the HAP surface to natural tissue. Among different kinds of methods to produce HAP coatings, electrochemical method used to deposit HAP on metal substrates is an attractive process because of easy application, low process temperature and easy control of deposit thickness. The aim of this study is to form CaP coatings on Ti6Al4V alloys by electrochemical deposition and investigate the physical and mechanical properties of these coatings. The deposits were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), stratch test and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR).
