Abstract (EN)

Topal Osman Pasha was born in the Morea in 1664. He was a child of a Turkish family who immigrated from Konya to the Morea. Osman Pasha came to İstanbul at a young age and entered the Sultan's service. When travelling by ship from İstanbul to Egypt, Topal Osman Pasha was wounded by pirates and taken prisoner. The wounds, he got in that fight, left him with lameness and after that he was called as "Topal". Osman Pasha was rescued from captivity by a Frenchman, Arnaud Vincent. After various duties, Topal Osman Pahsa was appointed serasker of the state of the Morea in 1716. He served as the governor of sanjaks in the many Balkan cities. He served as the governor of Bosnia and Rumeli again and again. He was invited to İstanbul in 1731 and appointed as Grand Vizier. He served as Grand Vizier for 172 days, between the dates of 22 September 1731 and 12 March 1732. After resigning from the office of Grand Vizier, he was inducted as the governor of Trabzon, Tbilisi and Erzurum. Towards the end of 1732, Topal Osman Pasha was appointed as Iran serasker upon the siege of Baghdad by Nadir Shah. He succeeded in defeating Nadir Shah in the combat of Ducum and saving Baghdad in 1732. Topal Osman Pasha fought against Nadir Shah again in Kirkuk in November 1733 and was martyred in the battle.
