Abstract (EN)

This study aims to examine the usage patterns and semantic structures of Kyrgyz Turkish words in the novel "Mother Earth" by Chingiz Aitmatov, a leading figure in Kyrgyz language and literature. The primary objective of the study is to evaluate the words and expressions in the novel's context and create a detailed and functional context dictionary of Kyrgyz Turkish vocabulary. In the novel "Mother Earth," written during the war years, the social structure, human emotions, and cultural values of the period became the primary elements shaping the language, and this was clearly reflected in the ways words acquire meaning and their usage during the preparation of the context dictionary. In this respect, the novel is a powerful literary text, reflecting the spirit of the period and the lives of the Kyrgyz people in the author's writing. The first chapter examines the historical and cultural structure of the Kyrgyz people, the structural characteristics of Kyrgyz Turkish, and the development of Kyrgyz literature. This chapter also focuses on the modernization process of Kyrgyz literature and the literary conditions of the Soviet era. Following this, the novel's theme, plot, psychological depths of the characters, nature-human relationships, labor and family themes, and particularly the importance of the mother figure are examined in detail. This chapter evaluates the novel's language through word and expression choices shaped by the social and cultural context of the period, demonstrating the effective linguistic reflection of these choices in the novel. The third chapter examines the novel's vocabulary contextually. Nouns, verbs, idioms, reduplications, compound verbs, proverbs, relationship words, and prayers and imprecations are categorized and examined under univocal and polysemic headings. The frequency of use of each word group is systematically determined using relevant tables. The fourth chapter presents a context dictionary prepared for the novel "Mother Earth", arranged alphabetically, and supplemented with example sentences that demonstrate the meanings acquired by elements within the context within the sentence. The 41 new meanings identified in the novel demonstrate the importance of creating a text-based context dictionary. Examining Aytmatov's word choice, narrative strategies containing cultural references, and unique style provides important and qualified findings in terms of linguistics studies and literary studies.
