Abstract (EN)

ivINVESTIGATION OF THE DYNAMIC AND KINEMATIC BEHAVIOURIN PATIENTS WITH TOTAL KNEE ARTHROPLASTY(M.Sc. Thesis)Umut ALTINKAYNAKGAZ UNIVERSITYINSTITUTE OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGYJanuary 2007ABSTRACTHuman knee becomes free of mechanical restriction by using knee prosthesis assurgical application (total knee arthroplasty) in cases of pain, wear andfunctional restriction; and patient?s gait becomes medically normal andcomfortable. Normal or pathological gait is determined in gait analysislaboratories equipped with special hardware and software. Gait analysissystems calculate moments occurring on articulations by a lower extremitymodel and inverse dynamic method. However, lower extremity model wherethose systems are used does not express ligaments of the articulations andsurfaces of articulations. In this study, lower extremity model and kneearticulation model are used together on sagittal plane. Doing this effects ofarticulation surfaces and ligaments could be included in the phases of gait. Inthis way, deviations of knee prosthesis components from articulation axis whichmay be encountered in knee prosthesis applications have been investigated.vIn this study, it has been observed in the cases that the required knee flexion -extension moments can only be obtained with an ideal knee prosthesisapplication and changes in the lengths of ligaments can occur within normalranges.Science Code : 914.1.084Key Words : Arthroplasty, gait analysis, total kneePage Number : 109Adviser : Assoc.
