Abstract (EN)

11 FRICTION-WEAR BEHAVIOUR OF BRONZE-BASED BRAKE LININGS MANUFACTURED BY POWDER METALLURGY TECNIQUE (M.Sc. THESIS) Mustafa BOZ GAZI UNIVERSITY INSTITUTE OF SCIENCE AND TECNOLOGY DECEMBER 1999 ABSTRACT Wear caracteristic of bronze-based brake linings manufactured by powder metallurgy tecnique have beeen investigated and compared to that of asbestos- based ones. Bronze powder was pressed under 350, 500 and 600 MPa pressure and sintered at 810 °C in the amonia atmosphere for 75 minutes. Wear characteristics of sintered specimens were determined and compared to that of asbestos brake lining. For the same friction distance, tempereture increase in the powder metal brake lining was lower than that of asbestos-based lining. It was determined that the wear ratio of powder metal brake lining was decreased with powder pressing pressure increasing but wear ratio was higher than that of asbestos brake lining.
