Temporal and spatial distribution of some pollutants in and around the Trabzon Harbour

SUMMARY Temporal and Spatial Distribution of Some Pollutants In and Around The Trabzon Harbor Temperature, dissolved oxygen, salinity, suspended solids, detergent, phenol, COD, oil and grease values were measured at 12 stations between December 1998- November 1999 to determine pollutant level and distribution due to maritime and terrestrial activities in and around Trabzon harbor. Temperature, dissolved oxygen, salinity values in the study area varied with season. Average concentrations of suspended solids, detergent, phenol, COD, oil and grease changed between, 3.08-26.42 mg/L, 0.072-0.148 mg/L, 0.008-0.027 mg/L, 250.7-338.6 mg/L and 0.073-0.367 g/L. Respectively detergent, phenol, COD, oil and grease measured in the harbor's stations were higher than the station's outside statio. In conclusion, it has been observed that pollutant concentrations increased as a result terrestrial pollutants such as sewage system rather than maritime activity.
