Turkish press for more than 12 March events

The army has had a special structure in Turkish political history. For this reason, during the history the relatianships between the army and politcs have continued.At the Republic Time, during the independence period and establishing the revalutions, there has been a support from the army. Thus, Turkish Armed Forces has felt as a guardian and protective of the republic administration itself.The officers educated with this belief, have made an interferance in the parties in power to correct them. The first military interfarence has been an army coup on 27 th May, 1960. Their aim? s been to correct the destroyed political balance. A period, began with this army coup, has continued on 12nd March, 1971 when military memorandum and the party in power have withdrawn .The shadow of the army on Turkish democracy has swing like the sword of Demokles. An army coup on 12th September, has followed the other. We can add a post-modern army coup on 28th February, 1997 and a memorandum on 27th April, 2007.In this period with military interferance, the Turkish press has supported them. This is because of the belief of Turkish press and some intellectuels on the modernization and development of Turkey would be faster with army force.There is no doubt the military interferances have made difficulties to the democracy culture.
