The nationalism in the Turkish state history

Ethnicity, national identity and nationalism are among the concepts that social scientists discuss a lot but cannot agree on. Even though the history of concepts such as ethnicity and national identity goes back to ancient times, the concepts of nation and nationalism are more modern titles. In this study, the historical background of national culture and national consciousness was examined, and the nationalization efforts of the Turkish States in the founding processes of history and the attitudes and thought structures of the states towards nationalism were analyzed and their historical continuity with the modern period was tried to be revealed. The aim of the study is to evaluate the different aspects of Turkish nationalism in terms of the nationalism theories prevailing in the West. Therefore, historical comparison method was used as the main method in the study. In the first part of the research, data related to the emergence of national identities in the world, the concept of ethnicity, the concept of nation and the emergence and development of nationalisms are discussed with the comparative historical method. In the second part, Turkish identity and Turkish nationalism, the origins of the Turkish nation, and their emergence and development are discussed with the comparative historical method. In the last part, the types, emergence and developments of Turkish nationalism are discussed with the comparative historical method. As a result of the study, it has been determined within the context of the Turkish nation that the origins of nationalism, which is considered a concept specific to the modern period in some sources, actually date back to much earlier times, and that the concept itself existed before its invention. Particularly in the oldest political texts attributed to the Turks, it has been revealed that the Turks saw themselves as an independent nation both politically and culturally, and demonstrated the will to maintain this independent existence. In this context, it has been observed that nationalist practices, which gained even more momentum during the establishment of the Republic of Turkey, have been encountered in various periods of Turkish history to varying degrees.
