Train in Turkish folk culture

The common connotations of the meanings attributed to an element within the culture it self is due to its symbolic feature. Machines, which are the focus of the modern age, take their place in the culture that creates a synthesis by renewing it self against the changing and developing time. Among the machines that evoke development and ideological approaches, trains have come to the fore in the context of the meanings attributed. The railways, which developed in England and weaved their webs to the world rapidly, also created their own travel romance, stopping places and literature. The train, which was a symbol of civilization for a period, and the concepts, metaphors and facts around it also formed the material for many texts. The train, which was invented in England in the 19th century; ıt has deeply affected people's lives by contributing to the revival of trade, the development of the economy and the mobilization of social life. While this effect is reflected in written and modern literature on the one hand, it also has a place in oral folk literature and folk culture. In this study; The reflection of the train on Turkish folk literature was examined. The aim of the study; The aim of this study is to determine how the train, a means of transportation developed in the 19th century, took place in Turkish folk literature and to evaluate the view of the Turkish people on the train. The study consists of three main sections: Conclusion, Bibliography and Appendices. As a result of the study, the "train" stands out as a symbolic phenomenon in the expression of emotions such as "homelessness, longing, separation, despair" in manis, laments, lullabies and folk songs; It has been determined that it is used as a means of transportation, a "physical object" in jokes and riddles, and as a new technology in minstrel literature. Qualitative research methods were followed in the study; literature review, text analysis / content analysis, observation and interview methods were used.
