Abstract (EN)

The process of the spread of European Modernism to the east, which started with the Industrial Revolution, gradually gained pace in the 19th century. The phenomenon of westernization, especially in the Ottoman Empire, was strongly felt between the years of 1795-1925, which we call the Qajar period in Iran. It can be said that the westernization understanding of the Qajar period emerged and developed in similar ways with the westernization understanding in Ottoman art. In our study, the changes in the Westernization process in both countries are discussed through the developments in the art of painting. The historical developments, life and works of the period of Kemal ol Molk (Muhammed Ghaffari) who lived in Iran during the Qajar period and one of the famous painters of this period were examined. In addition to the oil paintings produced by the artist, a total of 132 paintings were reached with the watercolor bird paintings on paper. These tables reached; landscapes, portraits, interior paintings, animal paintings are grouped under four main headings: an artist catalog. In addition, the artist's travels in Europe, his time in Iraq, the establishment of Müsterzefe Madrasa and the place of Iranian painting in the process of westernization were examined. By comparing the works of this Iranian artist with the works of the Ottoman painters who produced works in the same period, similarities and differences were tried to be revealed. Key Words: Iranian Qajar Period, Painting, Westernization, Kemal ol Molk
