Turkish and Iranian university students' views on peer selection

Abstract (EN)
In this research, Turkish and Iranian university students' views about peer selection aimed to investigate, according to the their countries, gender and their university?s departments that they continue to study.The study group of this research consist of totally 758 students that 384 students of them are from the University of Gazi in Turkey and 374 students from the University of Tabriz in Iran. The data obtained from both groups, were collected with a measurement tool that developed for this research. In the statistical analysis of data, Kay-Kare test and two-way analysis of variance was used.According to the research data, students of the both countries also see 26-29 age range generally as the most appropriate age of marriage. Turkish students who indicate this age range have significantly higher rates of Iranian students.There was found significantly difference Between the students' views about who should decide on the person that they want to marry . Most of the Turkish students expressed they should be decide on it themselves, but more Iranian students express they should be decide on it with their families.When the student?s preferred criteria for peer selection are examined, in both groups, "to be honest, be respectful, be faithful, intimacy, having a good career, good financial income and having a reliable personality" measures were taken in the first places."To be honest, commitment to home, mutual love, be respectful, to have a culture of reading " properties are more preferred by Turkish students than the Iranian students. "Being Considerate, want to like her or his clothing style, similarity of interest, physical and mental health " properties are preferable to the Iranian students. In both groups, female students are more preferred these criteria than men, " commitment to home, be respectful, good financial income, physical attractiveness, having a good career, The similarity of education and good social status ", but Men is more preferred "good cooking" criteria than girls.The students of social department preferred these criteria, " commitment to home, good financial income , having a good career" more than the students of science department , while ? physical attractiveness, good cooking " is more preferable properties to the students of science department.
