Abstract (EN)

Turkish music has an important place in world music history with its rich melodic structure and deep cultural roots. Makams in Turkish music are the basic building blocks that determine the melodic structure and emotional expression of music. Each makam carries a specific meaning and character, and with these characteristics it forms the rich and diverse structure of Turkish music. The word and term meanings, historical contexts and musical characteristics of the known makams in Turkish music offer a glimpse into the deep world of Turkish music with their word and term meanings as well as their musical characteristics. The aim of this study is to investigate the meanings of the known makams in Turkish music as words and terms. The research was conducted using the document review technique, one of the qualitative research methods. By examining the digital resources and physical books, theses and academic studies; the word and term meanings of 28 makams in Turkish Music, which are included in the sound system (24-pitch sound system developed by Arel-Ezgi-Uzdilek) commonly used in Turkish music today, were revealed. The word and term meanings of the makams used in Turkish music have been investigated; this information has provided a scientific framework for the correct transmission of Turkish music to future generations. The study of maqams is of critical importance not only for music theory and performance, but also for cultural identity and historical continuity.
