ivA CELLULAR MANUFACTURING APPLICATON IN A TURKISHFACTORY(M.Sc. Thesis)Kadir Gökhan GÜÇLÜGAZI UNIVERSITYINSTITUTE OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGYJanuary 2006ABSTRACTHaving a cellular or functional layout is critical in determining a factory?sability to compete in its market. In this study, cellular manufacturing is appliedto convert the functional layout of a Turkish company to cellular layout.Production Flow Analysis (PFA) is applied in the conversion process. PFA is asimple approach and obtains the part families and machine cellssimultaneously. The comparison of the previous function layout and obtainedcellular layout shows that there is around 70% reduction in material handlingcost and total distance travelled. In addition, a kanban pull system is alsodeveloped to control the flow of parts between the assembly lines and machinecells in this study.Science Code : 914Key Words : Cellular Manufacturing, Cellular Layout, Plant Layout, KanbanPage Number : 114Adviser : Assist.Prof. Mustafa YURDAKUL
