Abstract (EN)
Stereotypes in political cartoons play a significant role in reinforcing prejudices and negative perceptions that societies hold about one another. Periodic crises between Türkiye and Greece have also contributed to and intensified these biases. This study examines political cartoons published between 1945 and 1960 in Türkiye and Greece to explore how political relations between the two nations influenced each country's portrayal of the ''other''. The study seeks to answer the questions: Who is the ''Turk'' as portrayed in Greek political cartoons and who is the ''Greek'' as depicted in Turkish political cartoons from 1945 to 1960? In this context, it examines the scenarios in which Turkish and Greek characters are represented, how each side's perspective of the ''other'' was shaped, and how the political dynamics of the era were reflected in these images. For his research, all issues of Cumhuriyet in Türkiye and Ta Nea in Greece from 1945 to 1960 were reviewed in archives, and political cartoons depicting Turkish and Greek images formed the core of this study. Analysis of these cartoons shows that the ''other'' images reflect the nature of Turkish-Greek relations at the time. As a result of political conflicts and tensions, existing negative images of the ''other'' were often reproduced in cartoons, and at times, new negative images emerged. Keywords: Political Cartoons, Greece, Greek, Turkey and Turkish.
