Comparative analysis of political crises in Turkey between 1991-2021

Every country's political system is built upon the continuity of political stability. However, political crises that arise due to various reasons can disrupt this stability and expose the country's political life to certain risks. Therefore, political authorities endeavor to take preventive measures against political crises and develop effective public policies to mitigate their adverse effects. In this regard, conducting in-depth analyses of political crises to identify crisis areas is crucial for establishing a successful crisis management process. The Turkish political life has not been successful in preventing political crises or in producing policies to reduce their impacts. One-dimensional analyses focusing solely on the political system or political actors have been insufficient in identifying the sources of political crises in Turkey. In fact, in analyzing the political crises in Turkey, the dimension of political culture, which decisively influences the structural and functional problems of the political system and the approaches of political actors, has been overlooked. Therefore, integrating the influence of political culture into analyses of its impact on political crises will significantly contribute to understanding the nature of these crises. Identifying crisis areas in Turkish political life through the relationship among Turkey's political culture, system, and actors, and conducting analyses based on these areas, forms the general scope of this study. Accordingly, this study aims to comparatively analyze political crises in Turkey during the period from 1991 to 2021, focusing on the dimensions of political culture, system, and actors.
