Abstract (EN)

Stainless steels haven?t been produced in Turkey until today. AOD Converters are used for 75 percent of the stainless steel production in the world. AOD is the main step of the process for stainless steel production. This process can be defined generally by treating the liquid metal was melted in an Electrical Arc Furnace or Induction Furnace before, by blowing gases like Argon, Nitrogen and Oxygen. According to that, there will be an efficient decarburization in the liquid bath and carbon content will decrease without loss of chromium. When our AOD Converter will be ready for production, the first stainless steel production in Turkey will be achieved. This will be a major step forward for the Turkish industry. In this study, information about the specifications and process principles of the AOD Converter is explained, the studies currently taking place for achieving stainless steel production is discussed and the effects of the process parameters on the material properties is examined.
