ABSTRACT MSc THESIS THE CURRENT STATUS AND THE PROBLEMS OF MARINE HATCHERIES IN TURKEY MENDERES ŞEREFLÎŞAN DEPARTMENT OF FISHERIES INSTITUTE OF NATURAL AND APPLIED SCIENCES UNIVERSITY OF ÇUKUROVA Supervisor: Asst.Prof. Suat DİKEL Year: 1999, Pages: 70 Jury :Asst.Prof. Suat DİKEL.Assoc.Prof. Metin KUMLU :Asst.Prof. Nazmi TEKELİO?LU The aim of this study was to produce a scientific source that would be a guide to further research in an area where no previous research has been undertaken, by discussing the current status of the marine hatcheries and their common problems in Turkey. Out of 19 Turkish hatcheries established this study that has been carried out in 18 marine hatcheries the most commonly cultured species were sea bass (Dicentrarchns labrax) and sea bream (Sparus auratus) while have similar hatchery techniques, There were also some species produced in small quantities in only one hatchery. These species were mullet (Mugil cephalus), common sea bream (Pagrti.s pagrns) and dent ex (Dentex dentex). Key Words: Turkey, marine hatcheries, sea bream, sea bass. II
