Abstract (EN)
Turkish spiny mouse, Acomys cilicicus, is one of six endemic species in Turkey. This species was first identified by Spitzenberger based on samples that collected from 20 km. east of Silifke. Distribution area of the species were investigated starting from known distribution area toward the other directions by this study. Sherman type live capture traps were used in the study, and record were taken by GPS for each trap setting point. 1783 traps were set in 18 different localities during the study. According to the range of captured samples, the species distributes in the region between Silifke and Kumkuyu up to 6-7 km toward inland from the the sea side, Distribution continues up to 510 meters above sea level in an area of about 80-90 square kilometers. The most highest density area for distribution is the areas between Kızkalesi- Narlıkuyu region that close to sea side. Turkish spiny mouse shares the distribution area mainly the Apodemus mystacinus. The fact that any spiny mice were captured by traps which set in two seemingly suitable habitat in west of Göksu river shows that the species could not pass to the west of Göksu river. Typical habitat type of the species unchanged maquis with stony and rocky ground. Since the species shows a fairly small area, it seems necessary to protect suitable habitats carefully in distribution area maintain the species.
