Sustainable welfare in Turkish economy and relation with economic performance

This study examines the advantages and disadvantages of the concept of sustainable welfare from Turkey's perspective. The primary aim is to evaluate the effectiveness of Turkey's policies in achieving key goals, such as establishing a sustainable production structure, enhancing the social framework, ensuring economic stability, promoting equitable income distribution, and transferring this welfare model to future generations. To this end, the study will explain international indices used to measure sustainable welfare, evaluate their strengths and weaknesses, and analyze Turkey's welfare indicators. The discussion will focus on Turkey's sustainable welfare data, economic performance, and key metrics such as inflation, unemployment, growth, the current account deficit, and GDP per capita during the 2000–2020 period. An analysis of this period highlights Turkey's urgent need for a more sustainable structure. Therefore, structural reforms in areas such as law, education, health, energy, and innovation—particularly in the economic domain—are essential to improve welfare levels. A sustainable welfare environment should be established in line with national development plans and effectively passed on to future generations.
