Poli̇ti̇cal causes and consequences of parti̇ci̇pati̇on of Turkey i̇n the Korean War

After the Second World War , Korea separated by 38.parallel. The North of this parallel was occupied by Soviet Russia and the South of it was occupied by U.S.A.With separation of Korea , the Korea problem was occured. The expansionist attitude of USSR , took the US and the Europian countries , economic , political and military co – operation. Economic organizations were established and agreements were made for defense purposes. North Atlantic Treaty Organization was the most important one of them for these defense purposes. Against the treat of USSR , Turkey entered to seek the security and turned its face to the west and tried to work taking part in the Western institutions. To resolve security concerns , wanted to enter NATO but not accepted for various reasons. Here's Communist expansionism during this period, showed itself with North Korea's attack on South Korea. This time the free world, with the authority of the US-led United Nations took action to put a stop against communist expansionism.Turkey , with taking sides the United Nations' and with making decisions to send soldiers to Korea, saw the war of against the communism an oppurtinty for entering NATO. With North Korea's attack on South Korea , the Korean War began June 25, 1950. On top of that the United Nations passed a resolution to keep the peace. To re-establish peace in the United Nations asked member states to help South Korea. Following this decision, Turkey, Korea, 5000 sent an army force. . Opposition parties criticized the decision to send troops to the Government of the Democratic Party. The Government of the Democratic Party,with t hinking can take advantage of the Korean War, sent troops to Korea.Turkey , with sending army to the Korean War , showed that it located next to the democratic countries and with this this initiative has attracted the attention of world public opinion. As a result of this , the success of Turkey at Korea , had an influence to be a member of NATO.
