A research on the effects of syrian labor participation on the socio-economic status of local people in Turkey: The case of Adana

As a result of regional and global developments in the world, it sometimes becomes difficult for people to continue their lives in their homeland and situations arise where they have to leave their countries. This situation basically raises the problem of refugees and migrants as a social problem. As a result of the events in Syria in 2011, people experiencing security problems in their countries have taken refuge in many countries, primarily Turkey. Syrian refugees, who initially entered the country only as guests, have started to become permanent due to the further progress of the civil war. The average of 3 million Syrians who have entered Turkey as asylum seekers, especially those who stay outside the camps, are experiencing economic, cultural and social problems in the cities. Depending on these problems experienced, the problem of adaptation and acceptance also arises. Syrian migrants mostly live in places such as cities, metropolitan cities and Istanbul located on the Syrian border. In this context, the study was conducted to examine the social and economic situations of Syrians who emigrated from Syria to Turkey and are under temporary protection residing in Adana. In the study, it was seen that the social and economic situation of Syrian refugees is bad, they usually work in low-skilled and low-paid jobs. In particular, it has been observed that as the income level and education level of Syrians living in unhealthy conditions in slum-style areas increase, their level of benefiting from social benefits also decreases. In this study, it was aimed to examine the effects of the participation of Syrians in the labor force in Adana and the socio-economic status of the local people in Turkey. Accordingly, the survey method, one of the quantitative research models, was preferred in the study conducted using the Local People's Attitude Scale towards Syrians, with 200 people who voluntarily participated in the study, selected using the "Easy Sampling" method among the local people aged 18 and over living in Adana.
