ME-KA (vocational orientation) program in university libraries in Turkey example for Bulent Ecevit University

It is evident that the widespread employment of other staff who lack the necessary professional knowledge and skills regarding the execution of processes in university libraries due to lack of professionally qualified librarians is one of the most significant obstacles against supply of up-to-date information services. In this context, the aim of the study can be stated as "emphasizing the importance of training staff working at university libraries without library service training for certain professional skills and qualifications, planning, developing of the curriculum which aims to provide these skills, preparing its content and determining the principles for its execution." The study also aims to draw attention to the importance of a planned professional training program to be offered by librarians for library staff to be ready for information society. For this purpose, a professional training program has been developed and has been applied on Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University staff. At the end of the professional training program, the change in the achievement levels of staff was measured, and in the light of the data obtained, recommendations were made on the aim and content of the training for staff who are not librarians working in university libraries in Turkey.
