The Features of the international criminal rogatory letters and their translation into French language

International rogatory is that a competent judicial authority of a State takes the actions on behalf of the judicial authority of another State. The rogatory proceedings are carried out within the scope of the bilateral agreements between us and the relevant states, or the multilateral conventions, in case these are not available, the international common law rules and principle of reciprocity. The proceedings of taking the statement of a person who is in a foreign state, serving the rendered decisions to the concerned person or obtaining the information, documents regarding the concerned person or seizure of the property of the person and obtaining evidences from a foreign state are carried out by the assistance and cooperation of the other states. The foreign states make the similar requests from our country in the same way. The concepts of rogatory and international rogatory are comprehensively defined within the scope of the thesis study. The Features of the International Rogatory Letters have been mentioned in general terms and their functions have been specified. As the rogatory letters are within the scope of the legal texts, the theories and the methods to be used in the legal translations have been tried to be determined. The criminal rogatory letters, which constitute the primary thesis subject, have been examined in terms of their stylistic features in a detailed way and then it has been discussed which annexes they consist of and the methods that are necessary to be used in the translation of these texts into French.
