Abstract (EN)

International Relations as a discipline has emerged from the opinions about the question "How can peace be provided in the world?" after The First World War. Together with Idealism, Realism is one of the sides of the "Founder Debate" of the discipline, has given the disciplinary identity to International Relations and had a great role in the development of the discipline. In time Realism obtained a dominant theory position in International Relations, also as a result of the critiques it faced with, lived an improvement process in itself. By the revision of Realist theory, various theories have also emerged which are loyal to the Realist core and the improvement of Realist theory in International Relations discipline has meant the formation of the Realist theory tradition or the Realist paradigm. At the same time Realism became an important intellectual factor in the development of the discipline. However, for Realist approach nowadays it is difficult to adapt to the changes in world politics like the end of Cold War and globalization process. So, at the present time Realist approach is anymore insufficient across the complex reality of world politics. Consequently, in International Relations discipline Realist theory tradition is no more adapting to the reality of world in the twenty first century. The main goal in this study is to totally analyse the formation, content, improvement, change processes and the present paradigmatic situation of Realist theory. In this context, Realist theory has been critically analysed. Also, the other theories which emerged by the revision of Realist theory have been researched, the perception way of Realist approach about world politics has been discussed and the paradigmatic position of Realism in the twenty first century has been examined in the study. Under the domination of Realist paradigm, International Relations has left behind the twentieth century and in this study the development, the present position and the opinions about the future of the discipline also have been scrutinized. This study is composed of a total critical analysis about the past, the present and the future of Realism in International Relations.
