Abstract (EN)

The purpose of this study investigated since beginning of the International İstanbul Biennial with its phases and what kind of controversy has been the subject. The International İstanbul Biennial, which began since 1987, purposes a coordinating point in the field of visual arts and with other cultures artists in İstanbul.Nowadays, The International İstanbul Biennial forms such as any other art centers in the world, with a coordinator located through an advisory board invites the artists and projects to the biennial exhibition and gives reaction with its investigates to the artists world.These biennials held discussions can reveal such as conceptual framework, selection of exhibition venues, appointed curators, curatorial threads and sponsoring agency; the last two biennial seem to approach the policy issues with its discussion threads. And also the Biennial will be sponsored by the Koç Holding for ten years, has lost the initiative and autonomy of art and art circles in the capitalist system has been subject to debate turned into an object of consumption.This multi-faceted debate, provides an overview of Turkish art scene line that developed after 1987. İn this research, these discussions are to be provided with a holistic view and created collective work. it will continue to be subject of debate and research and being accepted in over the world, into globalizing world city and biennial caught their nesting.
