Analysis of papers in the field of science and technology teaching at the international classroom teacher education symposium

Abstract (EN)

The International Classroom Teacher Education Symposium (USOS) is an internationally participated symposium held every year in the field of classroom teaching. In this study, it was aimed to examine the papers in the field of Science and Technology Education of the International Classroom Teacher Education Symposium in terms of some variables such as purpose, method, and statistical analysis. For this purpose, 340 abstracts of science and technology education were examined out of 3360 papers published in the USOS Abstracts Books between the years 2015-2023 using the document analysis method. The Abstract Review Form was used during the review and within the scope of this form, the abstracts were analyzed with descriptive analysis in terms of author information (number of authors, titles, institutions they are affiliated with), keywords, subject, purpose, methods used, study groups, data collection tools, and statistical methods. The obtained data were expressed with frequency and percentage values. As a result of the research, it was determined that the purpose of most of the papers was expressed as hypothesis, the most common topic was opinions, and the most common subtopic was concept knowledge. It was determined that the most commonly used methods in the papers were quantitative and qualitative methods; more papers were written in descriptive, experimental and scanning models. It was determined that they were frequently studied with undergraduate classroom teaching students and primary school students, scales were the most preferred data collection tools, and the most frequently used statistical method was difference tests. In addition, it was observed that the statistical analyses, method and research model of one fourth of the papers were not clearly stated. In addition, it was determined that the institutions that participated the most in the papers were Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University, institutions affiliated to the Ministry of National Education and Kastamonu University. This study, which offers a general framework to look at the papers in the field of Science and Technology Education in USOS, can be repeated in different learning areas and years.
