Developing innovative design suggestions to create sustainable landscape areas on university campuses: the case of METU Campus

Universities, which contribute greatly to academic, professional, social and individual development, are important educational institutions that ensure the socio-cultural, economic, political and technological development of the society in which they are located. It is known that university campuses, which are located as campuses in cities, meet all the needs of university youth as well as education, research and application functions, and spread over large areas of land, constitute important areas of nature, aesthetics and green areas in urban structuring. While the activities in the open and green areas of university campuses continue regularly throughout the year, periodical services and technical works are planned in detail. In order for these works in green areas to be permanent, periodic activities should be continued uninterruptedly, and it is aimed to share concrete application methods to ensure this sustainability. The aim of this thesis is to determine the development and reconstruction work processes in the open and green areas of university campuses. As a result of the study, alternative improvement and remanufacturing parts were identified and advanced design suggestions for the Middle East Technical University (METU) Campus are presented.
