Examination of sexual health knowledge and attitude levels of university students

This post-test comparative and quasi-experimental study was conducted to investigate whether the Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) education received by university students had a positive contribution to their sexual health knowledge levels and sexual attitudes. The research data were applied to 240 students studying in the Department of Health and Care Services at Mardin Artuklu University in Mardin province and who agreed to participate in the research between April 2023 and July 2023. The "Personal Information Form", "Sexual Health Knowledge Test (SHKT)" and "Hendrick Sexual Attitude Scale (BSAS) Short Form" were used to collect the data. The BSAS sub-dimensions and SHKT total score averages were compared between university students who received SRH education and students who did not receive this education. Accordingly; It was determined that the BSAS Birth control sub-dimension score averages differed significantly in students who received SRH education compared to students who did not receive this education [p=0.023], and the sexual attitudes of university students who received education regarding birth control were more positive compared to those who did not receive education. It was determined that the mean score of the HCTS Evaluation as a Tool sub-dimension differed significantly in students who received SRH education compared to those who did not [p=0.023], and that the sexual attitudes of university students who received education regarding evaluation as a tool were more positive compared to those who did not. It was determined that the mean score of the SHKT differed significantly in students who received SRH education compared to those who did not [p<0.001], and that the sexual knowledge levels of university students who received education were more positive compared to those who did not. It is recommended that more comprehensive studies be conducted on correcting the SRH and sexual attitudes of young people in a positive way and that SRH education be widespread in secondary education and all departments of universities.
