Analysis of the relationship between the unrational faith and academic delay levels of university students

The main purpose of this thesis was to examine the relationship between university students' irrational beliefs and academic procrastination. The sample of the research consists of 151 undergraduate students from the Faculty of Economics, Administrative Social Sciences and Engineering Sciences, studying at Toros University in Mersin. 74.2% (n=112) of the students participating in the research were female and 25.8% (n=39) were male. According to the grade levels; 15.9% (n=24) of the students were in the 1st grade, 20.5% (n=31) were in the 2nd grade, 23.8% (n=36) were in the 3rd grade and 39.7% of them (n=60) continue to the 4th grade. In the research, data were collected through the Personal Information Form, the Irrational Beliefs Short Form (Türküm, 2003) and the Academic Procrastination Scale (Çakıcı, 2003) prepared by the researcher. Data analysis was done using SPSS 25.0 program. Pearson correlation analysis, simple linear regression analysis and logistic regression analysis were used to determine the relationship between irrational beliefs and academic procrastination behavior. According to the findings obtained as a result of the research; When the relationship between irrational beliefs and academic procrastination behavior was examined, it was concluded that there was a moderately positive and significant relationship between the two cases. If students' irrational beliefs increase, academic procrastination also shows a significant increase with a moderate relationship. The results of the research were evaluated within the scope of the relevant literature; Suggestions were made to researchers and practitioners for future research.
